These antique prints are very old engravings and lithographs pertaining to sailing and America’s Cup Racing, which was hosted in Newport RI for decades. Our newspaper records, were produced close to or over 100 years ago, depicting events at the times they were happening. 

Some of the antique sports prints come from early magazines. Others were elaborate, pleasing to the eye, decorative illustrations for newspapers. These specifically printed at one time, to document the event. Early newspapers of the 1800’s, such as Harper’s Weekly & Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper. Decorative, exciting sports prints, sold more subsciptions to early American followers of: America’s Cup Sailing. Many are boxwood engravings that were easily engraved with burins and printed in black over 100 years ago… Around 1895 the change of to photographically printed, and are called halftones.
